You’ve received your first dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine at MainStreet. So what do you do next? We’ve answered all your questions here. Please note that if you did not receive your first dose of the vaccine at MainStreet, you are not eligible to receive your second dose with us. We suggest you return to the facility where you received your first dose for further instructions.

All patients must receive their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at the same MainStreet clinic location where their initial vaccine dose was administered. MainStreet Family Care will only be providing the second dose on the 28th day for each patient, as outlined on the patient return letter.

How many doses of the Moderna vaccine are required?

All persons indicated for vaccination should receive 2 doses, 4 weeks (28 days) apart.

When do I get my second dose of the vaccine?

The currently authorized vaccines to prevent COVID-19 in the United States require 2 shots to get the most protection.

The Moderna shots, the ones that are given at MainStreet Family Care clinics, should be given 4 weeks (28 days) apart. You should get your second dose 28 days after your first dose. This date should have been written in your return letter. Please register online before 10:00 am in order to ensure you claim your second dose shot. This is crucial to ensure you can receive the dose that has been allocated for you on your 28th day.

Do I have to go back to MainStreet for my second dose?

Yes. In fact, we need you to return to the same clinic location that you received your first dose at. This is for a couple of reasons:

• COVID-19 vaccines are not interchangeable with each other or with other COVID-19 vaccine products. By returning to our clinic, we can ensure that you are receiving the correct vaccine at the proper time.
• Availability is key. We have already allocated a dose for you that will be sent to the same clinic you received your first dose at.

So do I have an appointment already? Do I need to register online? How do I get my second dose of the COVID vaccine at MainStreet?

While you do not have an appointment per se, we have your second dose ready for you exactly 28 days after your first dose. We will be expecting you on this date.

• Refer to your vaccine card issued to you at the clinic. You are required to bring this card with you to receive your second dose.
• Register as soon as registration opens the morning of your 28th day that you plan on coming to the clinic. You must register for your second dose before 10:00 AM on the day of your visit.

   2. Select the clinic location that you received your first dose at and click on that clinic to register. You are not permitted to select a different clinic or a clinic that may be closer geographically than the one that you received your first dose at.
   3. When it prompts you for a “Reason for Your Visit” select “COVID Vaccine Follow-Up”
   4. Once you’ve submitted your registration, you will receive a text letting you know when to head to the clinic.

Will I be protected after a single dose?

Both doses are necessary for protection. The efficacy of a single dose has not been systematically evaluated.

After receiving the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, will I test positive on COVID-19 tests?

No. This vaccine does not infect you with the vaccine. At any point, if you are infected with the virus, all forms of viral testing will produce an accurate result.

Do I need to wear a mask after getting my second dose of the vaccine?

Yes. Not enough information is currently available to say if or when CDC will stop recommending that people wear masks and avoid close contact with others to help prevent the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19.

Experts need to understand more about the protection that COVID-19 vaccines provide in real-world conditions before making that decision. Other factors, including how many people get vaccinated and how the virus is spreading in communities, will also affect this decision. We also don’t yet know whether getting a COVID-19 vaccine will prevent you from spreading the virus that causes COVID-19 to other people, even if you don’t get sick yourself. CDC will continue to provide updates as we learn more.

While experts learn more about the protection that COVID-19 vaccines provide under real-life conditions, it will be important for everyone to continue using all the tools available to help stop this pandemic.

To protect yourself and others, follow these recommendations:

• Wear a mask over your nose and mouth
• Stay at least 6 feet away from others
• Avoid crowds
• Avoid poorly ventilated spaces
• Wash your hands often

Together, COVID-19 vaccination and following CDC’s recommendations for how to protect yourself and others will offer the best protection from getting and spreading COVID-19.

Are booster doses needed after getting the two vaccine doses?

The need for and timing of booster doses for these COVID-19 vaccines has not been established. No additional doses beyond the two-dose primary series are recommended at this time.
