MainStreet Family Urgent Care goes Red!

MainStreet Family Urgent Care kicked off the month of February by going red. The staff across 15 of our clinics wore red t-shirts and our social media team kicked off a heart campaign. MainStreet hopes to educate the community on ways to improve heart health.  Unfortunately, heart problems do not discriminate against any race, age, or gender. Therefore, we would like to share the story of one of our local heart hero’s from right here in Gardendale, Alabama.

Tucker Ragland, age 6 is a CHD survivor.

At 23 weeks gestation, Tucker Ragland, was diagnosed with Double Outlet Right Ventricle with pulmonary stenosis. His family spent many months preparing their hearts and their minds for this new world of Congenital Heart Defect they were about to enter. Tucker was born at UAB and had a short NICU stay before being sent home with his family to grow and prepare for his open-heart surgery. He had his first surgery when he was just 4 months old. Tucker recovered within a few weeks and, over the next year, continued to grow and thrive. When he was 17 months old, he underwent a cardiac catheterization in which the plan was to stretch his pulmonary artery. During the procedure, doctors discovered that the patch inside his heart had torn apart from the heart wall, and Tucker would need another open-heart surgery to repair this to allow adequate oxygenation of the blood in his body. The surgery was a success and Tucker is now a 6-year-old who is excelling in every way possible! The scar on his chest reminds his family of just how strong he is, and he is proud to show it!

Super Hero’s come in all sizes!
